As noted in the section on linked lists, the implementations in the last two sections depends on us recognizing the associativity of addition. This recognition is an example of what I call insight into the nature of a problem. When we understand a problem well we can use our creativity to implement direct and elegant solutions. Creativity has its limits, though: some problems inherently resist understanding while still requiring solutions.
